Esso, owned by ExxonMobil, is now the UK's largest fuel brand, with more than 1,400 Esso petrol stations. It grew in 2025 when big operators, mainly Motor Fuel Group and Asda, switched many of their stations to Esso.
Esso doesn't run its own petrol stations. They're owned and run by other businesses, which is why the shop, car wash and opening hours vary from site to site.
Most Esso stations give Nectar points on fuel and in the shop, while stations with a Tesco Express shop give Tesco Clubcard points instead. Esso's premium petrol, Synergy Supreme+ 99, is an E5 fuel for older cars that can't use E10.
