Who we are

petrolsavings.com is operated by Petrol Savings, which acts as the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

What data we collect

• Postcodes, towns and places you search for, used to return nearby results.
• Your device's location, only if you choose "Use my location", used to find your nearest postcode or route start.
• Technical data in our server and error logs: IP address, browser type, and the pages you request, including any postcode or location in the web address.
• Contact form submissions: name, email, subject, message.
• Consent preferences stored in the ps_consent cookie.
• Analytics events only when consent is granted. Third-party analytics are currently active for visitors who opt in.
• Advertising identifiers (Google AdSense) only when consent is granted and ads are enabled.
• reCAPTCHA scores when spam protection is enabled and consent allows.
• Affiliate link clicks (a hashed IP address, browser type and referring page) when you allow advertising cookies.

Location and searches

When you search by postcode or town, it appears in the page address (for example /search/SW1A1AA/unleaded), and some calculators add the postcode you enter to their address so you can share the result. Page addresses can be kept in your browser history and in our server, Cloudflare and error-monitoring logs, and are visible to services that load on the page, such as map tiles and, if you allow them, ads and analytics.

If you use "Use my location", your device's coordinates are sent to us to find your nearest postcode. In the route planner they become the start point in the page address, and route results are stored for up to 24 hours, keyed by the start and end points, so repeat searches are quick.

There are no accounts, so we don't keep a search history linked to you.

How we use data

• Deliver search results, station pages, and calculators.
• Maintain site performance and detect abuse.
• Improve the product using aggregated analytics (if enabled and consented).
• We will publish a new policy version date before enabling third-party analytics.
• Support advertising (Google AdSense) or affiliate features when consented.

Legal basis

• Legitimate interest for core service delivery (search and pricing).
• Consent for analytics, advertising, and non-essential cookies.
• Contract/legitimate interest for responding to contact enquiries.

Data sharing

We only share data with providers we need to run the service:

• Hetzner (server hosting) and Laravel Forge (server management).
• Cloudflare (content delivery network and security).
• TomTom (map tiles and route planning) and OpenStreetMap (backup map tiles).
• Postmark (sending emails, such as contact form confirmations) and Zoho Mail (our support inbox).
• Sentry (error monitoring, so we can find and fix faults).
• Google reCAPTCHA for spam protection on the contact form (when enabled and consented).
• Google AdSense (advertising network; only when ads are enabled and consented).
• Analytics providers (active only for visitors who opt in).

Some of these providers, including Google, Postmark and Sentry, may process data outside the UK, for example in the United States. Contact us if you would like details of the safeguards that apply.

Advertising

We may show ads from Google AdSense. Ads only load if you allow advertising cookies, you can change your choice at any time, and ads never affect how we rank stations or show prices.

• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
