About ASDA Fuel

Asda, one of the UK's largest supermarket chains, has a significant presence in the petrol retail market. Founded in 1949 by a group of Yorkshire farmers, Asda's name is a blend of 'Associated Dairies' and the initials of early investors, the Asquith family.

Asda ventured into petrol retail in 1967, as part of its strategy to offer customers more value and convenience under one roof. Today, the company operates a diverse range of petrol stations, from those located at its superstore sites to smaller Express format forecourts, catering to various customer needs.

In a major move in 2021, Asda acquired EG Group's UK and Irish operations, which included 388 petrol stations, in a deal worth £2.27 billion. This acquisition significantly strengthened Asda's position in the petrol market. Additionally, in 2022, Asda expanded further by acquiring additional sites from the Co-op in a £600 million deal.

Asda is well-known for offering competitive fuel prices, although recent reports suggest that since its acquisition by the Issa brothers and private equity firm TDR Capital, its pricing strategy may have become less aggressive. Despite this, Asda remains a popular choice for motorists due to its widespread network and convenient locations.

Many of Asda's petrol stations are automated, operating 24/7, which is particularly appealing to drivers who need to refuel outside regular business hours. This round-the-clock service makes Asda a go-to option for late-night and early-morning travellers.

ASDA Loyalty Scheme

The Asda Rewards app offers a loyalty program that allows customers to earn cash back for purchases, including fuel at Asda petrol stations.

Customers can earn 0.5% back on their fuel spend, which is deposited into their Asda Rewards Cashpot. However, this reward may not be available at all Asda Express or smaller petrol locations. Users can download the app, create an account, and scan their rewards card or app barcode at the checkout to start earning.
